Geraldine Phipps Rice, age 94, of Jackson, KY passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Breathitt Health and Rehab Center in Jackson, KY.  She was born August 29, 1931, in Cannel City, KY and was the daughter of the late Hager B. and Maggie Wheeler Phipps.   She was also preceded in death by her husband: Dr. John Clay Rice.  Her son:  Hager Kelly Rice.  Grandchildren:  Kevin Matthew Rice and Catherine Elyse Watts.  Brothers:  Donald Gordon Phipps, Bill “B.I.” Phipps and Gerald Phipps. Her sister:  Clara Phipps Fallen.

She is survived by two sons: Lawrence Rice of Jackson, KY and Frank (Michele) Rice of Lawrenceburg, KY.  Two daughters:  Angela Rice of Richmond, KY and Gerri Chapman of Jackson, KY.  Daughter-in-law: Pam Rice of Richmond, KY.  Grandchildren:  Karisha (Chris) Friley, Jonathan (Kendra) Chapman, David Andrew Rice, James Clay (Wendy) Rice, Sarah Kelly (Josh) Stewart, Larry (Brittani) Rice, Jeremy (Jerri) Rice, Elizabeth (Quill) Garrett, Eddie (Kate) Rice, Brandy Rice.  Nineteen great grandchildren and 2 great -great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at First United Methodist Church of Jackson, KY at 1:00 pm with Peyton Rice officiating.  Burial in the Hager B. Phipps Family Cemetery, Cannel City, KY.  Visitation will be on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 5:00-9:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home with Eastern Star service being observed from 5:00-5:30 pm.  Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Pallbearers:  Grandsons and Great Grandsons. Any contribution in remembrance of Geraldine may be made to First United Methodist Church of Jackson.
