Donna Rae Shouse (Back), Age of 87, of Bethel, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on April 8th, 2026 peacefully with family by her side. She was born August 5th, 1938 in Quicksand, KY and was the daughter of the late Wilgus and Lurlie Back (Deaton).

She is preceded by, her husband of 54 years, GB Shouse; son, Douglas Shouse; siblings, Bobby Back, Betty Stacy (Back), Donald Back, and Meredith Price (MP) Back.

She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Trish) Crawford and husband, Don Crawford, Jennifer Shouse, and Yanci Vontz; Grandchildren, Joshua Shepherd and wife, Sheryl Shepherd, Donnie Crawford and wife Jessie Crawford, Tess Van Winkle (Ammerman) and husband Shawn Van Winkle, Chase Vontz, and Justin Vontz; Great Grandchildren, Paul Crawford, Gabriel Shepherd, Tristen Shepherd, Eva Shepherd, and Kennedy Van Winkle. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna Rae and GB married in 1953 in Breathitt County, KY and moved to Michigan that same year. They later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and ultimately settled in the country in Bethel, OH, where they raised their four children.

Through the years she worked hard to balance having a job, being a devoted wife, raising their children, gardening, canning all the vegetables that they grew on the property, frying the fish that GB caught, and making sure all were cared for. Even when times were tough, she made sure to love and extend a helping hand. Whether that meant having nieces and nephews visit, or even being one of the biggest helpers with caring for her grandchildren. Being with extended family and friends was such a joy in her life and some of her best stories came from the memories of being surrounded by those she loved.

Known for her fiery spirit and love for her family and friends; it was always shown through family gatherings, annual trips with her sister and sister-in-law, frequent trips with close friends, and all the pranks she played on others through the years. We all loved to hear all the stories she had to tell. Everyone was always welcome and you always knew at her house, you would be greeted with a big hug, an offer for something to eat or drink multiple times, a place to nap, and if you did nap or stay the night, you would be offered more blankets or quilts to cover up with than you ever needed. No matter what, you would wake up with more than what you fell asleep with. The best part was knowing you were probably wrapped up in a handmade quilt that she had made. When she wasn’t piecing together her next quilt, she was usually either cooking the best homemade southern meals, listening to the radio, playing cards, sitting on the porch, telling stories, or making sure we all had what we needed and were cared for.

To celebrate her life, please join the family for a public visitation at E.C. Nurre in Amelia, OH on Monday, April 13th, 2026 from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral service will follow and begin at 7pm. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 14th, 2026 at 1pm in Quicksand, KY at The Miles Back Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
