Winfred Smith, age 65, of Jackson, KY passed on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was born July 14, 1959, in Decoy, KY to the late Jerry and Ocie Lovely Smith. He was also preceded in death by one brother: Larry Smith and one sister: Wilma Ann Smith Combs. Winfred was a loving, devoted husband to the love of his life, Beverly Turner Smith. They were wed September 19, 1982. Their marriage of almost 43 years produced two daughters and two grandchildren.
Winfred is survived by his wife: Beverly Turner Smith of Jackson, KY. Two daughters: Carol Napier (Chris Farler) and Samantha Gail (Anthony) Roberts, both of Jackson, KY. Two grandchildren: Elijah Walker Roberts and Hannah Grace Roberts, both of Jackson, KY. Four brothers: Logan Smith and Paul (Valerie) Smith, both of Jackson, KY. Charlie (Lois) Smith of Salyersville, KY and Mike Smith of Lexington, KY. Two sisters: Linda Bailey of Evanston, KY and Frankie (Eric) Leiss of Missouri. He is aslo survived by a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
Winfred enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He never failed to tell people who God was and their need for Baptism in Jesus Name. He was continuously worried about the sinner’s soul. Winfred was instrumental in the opening of the Apostolic Outreach of Soldiers of Jesus Christ. When he was able, he would help give out food. He was looking forward to the building of the new Highways and Hedges Outreach Center. Winfred wrote many gospel songs and often sang them in church. Winfred pastored the Soldiers of Jesus Christ Church right up until the end. He was a joy to be around. Everyone who met him loved him. No matter their walk in life-Rich or Poor, he didn’t care. His and Beverly’s home was always opened to others. Winfred loved everyone especially his family and friends. He easily forgave others and never held a grudge. He was an example of a true Soldier of Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 am at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Joe Lewis and John Bunn officiating. Burial in the Turner Cemetery, Jackson, KY. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00-9:00 pm with additional services beginning at 7:00 pm. Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Winfred’s pallbearers who are great men of God shall lay him to rest: Billy Joe Lewis, Krouc Noble, Ken Miller, Dallas Patrick, Larry Patrick, Chris Holliday, Donnie Noble, Anthony Roberts, Chris Farler, Jesse Paul Wagers.
