Donnie Smith, age 64, of Jackson, KY passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at his residence in Jackson, KY.-He was born January 9, 1957, in Jackson, KY, and was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mary Elizabeth Strong Smith.- Donnie was a graduate of Breathitt High School in 1975. He attended Lees JR College and studied radio, tv, and film production at EKU in Richmond, KY.- He was a local businessman in Jackson for many years which included the dairy bar and Breathitt Collectables and Videos.-He was a big Breathitt High School and UK sports fan, and did radio work as a sports announcer for WVQQ in Hyden and WSGS in Hazard.-He was a former disc jockey for WJSN-FM in Jackson.-He is survived by sisters: Linda Buck and fiancee Hugh Lomas of Evans, GA and Debra ( William) Henson of Lost Creek, KY.-One brother: Jeff Smith of Jackson, KY. Niece: Emily Buck.-Nephews: Thomas J. Smith, IV; Matthew Colby Henson, William Henson, JR; Corey Buck.- Great Nephews: Jaxson Taylor Smith and Thomas J. Smith, V.- Aunts: Margaret (Marshall) Cain of Mt. Vernon, KY and Mollie Strong of Jackson, KY.- He is also survived by a host of cousins and many friends.-A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Armon Nichols officiating- Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm until the time of service.-His remains will be interred at the Jackson Cemetery on Monday, July 26, 2021, with a private brief service at the gravesite.-Deaton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
