William Henderson (Sarge) Shepherd

William Henderson (Sarge) Shepherd, age 85, of Jackson, KY departed this earthly life on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, KY.-He was born May 3, 1934, in Norton, VA and was the son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Gracie Alice (Turner) Shepherd.- Sarge was a retired US Army Veteran, retired teacher with awards for Citizen of the Year and Teacher of the Year.-He is survived by his wife: Peggy Shepherd of Jackson, KY.-Two sons: Stephen L. (Rachel) Shepherd of Richmond, KY.-William G. (Shannon) Shepherd of Berea, KY.-One grandson: William S. Shepherd of Austin, TX.-Six sisters: Margaret Goode of Pennington Gap, VA; Wilma McCumber of Norton, VA; Beulah Jean Lee of Spartanburg, SC; Catherine Shepherd of Norton, VA; Edith Wright of Fredericksburg, VA; Linda Horn of Wise, VA ; Three brothers: Robert Shepherd of Kingsport, TN; Charlie Shepherd of Knoxville, TN; Glenn Shepherd of Pound, VA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Emmitt Campbell officiating.-Burial in the Jackson Cemetery.-Visitation will begin on Saturday at 11:00 AM until time of service.-Military Rites will be observed. -Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.-Pallbearers: Family and Friends
