Sam Bowling, age 66, of Corning, NY and formerly of Jackson, KY went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.-Sam was born April 30, 1952 in Saldee, KY to Archie and Della (Watts) Bowling. -He was a graduate of Breathitt County High School and attended Corning Community College. He married Carol Holmes on July 25, 1970 at Rehobeth Bible Church , Portsmouth, KY.-He had worked for Jackson Wholesale Company, Marty Coal Company, and Dresser Rand as a machinist and supervisor.–He loved cook-outs, driving bus, woodworking and remodeling homes, and was involved with various church ministries both in Kentucky and New York.–Sam loved to spend time with his grandchildren who call him Bumpy.-He is survived by his wife Carol; two daughters, Stephanie (Lee) Watson of Homby, NY and Stacy (Justin) Thomas of Addison, NY– One son: Chad (Rebecca) Bowling of Carlisle, PA; Two brothers: Elijah (Diane) Bowling of Edgewood, KY and Archie (Mary) Bowling, JR of Jackson, KY–Six grandchildren, Joshua Watson, Kristen Watson, Payton Thomas, Grant Thomas, Colton Thomas, and Layne Bowling.–Father-in-law: Ed Holmes of Corning, NY– Sister-in-law, Cora Bowling of Saldee, KY– Brothers-in-law, Oscar Strong of Saldee, KY and David (Linda) Holmes; Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Sam was also preceded in death by two sisters: Jalie Burton and Elizabeth Strong. -One brother: Reed Bowling.–Funeral services will be held in Corning, NY on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Schooley and Justin Thomas officiating.–Visitation for local arrangements will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Bowling Road, Jackson, KY beginning at 10:00 a.m. with singing at 2:00 p.m. and funeral services beginning at 3:00 p.m.-John Bunn, Justin Thomas and Ollie Bowling officiating.–Burial in the Reed Bowling Memorial Garden Cemetery at Saldee, KY.–Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.–Memorial donations may be made to East Lindley Baptist Church, Missions Fund, 10039 Tannery Creek Road, Corning NY 14830 or to Higher Hope Church, 356 Maple Street, Big Flats, NY 14814 |
