Larry Smith, age 71, (born May 23, 1952 at Decoy, KY) departed this world on March 3, 2024 at the KY River Medical Center in Jackson, KY. He had a long career as a coal truck operator/owner. He had a love for horse and spent time working with and showing Tennessee Walkers. He was a long time resident of the Southfork Community and loved working in his garden and being outside. He was a Christian man and that showed in all aspects of his life. He talked about his love for the Lord and the bible all the time. He often bought bibles and gifted them to others. He instilled the Word of God in every conversation and posted scripture daily. He atteded the Word of Life Church in Beattyville, KY on Sundays and The Soldiers of Jesus Christ on Thursdays. He was lovingly referred to as “Pap” and loved spending time with his great grandchildren. He will be missed by many but knowing he is in a better place allows us to rejoice in his homecoming. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jerry and Ocie (Lovely) Smith. One sister: Wilma Combs. One nephew: Adam Combs. Two grandchildren: Cameron Harris and Marley Gross. Two sons-in-law: James Coomer and Carles Jones. One brother in law: Hickey Manns and one sister in law: Faye Smith. He is survived by two daughters: Debbie Smith Jones and Chrystal (Shannon) Rife, both of Jackson, KY. One step daughter: Angie (John) Marshall and family of Jackson, KY. Five brothers: Logan Smith, Paul (Valarie) Smith, Winfred (Beverly) Smith of Jackson, KY; Charlie (Lois) Smith of Salyersville, KY and Mike Smith of Winchester, KY. Two sisters: Linda Bailey of Jackson, KY and Frankie (Eric) Leiss of Missouri. Four grandchildren: Dustin Coomer, Aubry (Zach) Gibson, Tyson Gross, Tory (Jagger) Baker. Five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other friends. Funeral serivces will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Holliday officiating. Burial in the Smith Family Cemetery, Hwy 1098, Jackson, KY. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5:00-9:00 pm. Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. |
